Caves are fascinating places that make us walk in the geological eras. Fragile and complex ecosystems tell us of the innumerable variations that the Earth has had and still has in the water cycle, a vital element that join all living beings. Caves are the kingdom of silence and darkness hosting and unrepeatable organisms.

The Velebit mountain is the largest and most complex protected area in Croatia (200.000 ha), proclaimed Nature Park since 1981. Due to its natural value and importance to biodiversity conservation, Velebit was designated a biosphere reserve under the UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere Program. Velebit belongs to the one of the most striking karst complexes in the world, the Dinaric karst.

Cerovac caves is a special protected geomorphological natural monument since 1961, located in the south part of Velebit near Gračac. The complex is comprised of three caves containing a total of 7 km of explored passages.

In the vicinity of Cerovac Caves we will also visit river Zrmanja with beautiful waterfalls, canyons and diversity of flora and fauna. Let’s make together a different ‘beach day’ and take a swim under waterfalls of Zrmanja river, on a southern part of Velebit Nature Park.

ITINERERY:

7:30 – Start from Krk Town, meeting point: parking lot in front of Supermarket Plodine

11:00 – check-in and short walk to the cave entrance

11:30 – 13:00 – guided tour in Cerovac caves

13:30 – transfer to Zrmanja river

14:00 – 17:30 – free time for lunch, beach, swimming and enjoying Zrmanja coastline

17:30 – 20:30 – transfer back to Krk island (dropp-off at the same locations)

Meeting Point

Meeting point is a parking lot in front of Supermarket Plodine in town of Krk, 15 minutes before the tour starts. Please don’t be late and keep in mind that traffic and parking in July and August might also take you some time. In the case you cannot find the meeting point, please contact your Tour Guide on mobile phone nr. +385 91 5634 930. In the case you need a transfer from your accomodation to meeting point, contact agency or guide min. 24 h before the tour.
